The clients brief was to add a kitchen and dining room to the ground floor, with a new master bedroom to the first, rationalizing the layouts and connecting the house more fully to the garden and engaging with the wonderful views over the Medway valley. The design arrived at removes a poorly built 30 year old extension, retaining the beautiful original oak framed cottage and brick built Victorian wing, and the erection of a new building that mirrors the original, facing the garden and the views. This was built using a traditional oak frame with large glazed sliding doors opening out to the garden from both the new kitchen and dining room. An atmospheric passage runs the length of the building, between old and new wings, in which the new stair with oak ribbed roof light over is to be found.
